Steps to a Healthier You
Published on May 21, 2011 by Kathie Smith
According to Dr. Oz the single best thing you can do for your health is walk.  Putting one foot in front of the other makes you healthier, gives you more energy, and makes you feel younger.  If you walk with friends you can keep up with what is going on in their lives, solve the problems of the world, see what‘s going on in your neighborhood, and if you have new walking gear, you can show it off.

If you are not motivated to walk, check out the benefits of a regular walking program, these may motivate you to get off the sofa and hit the road.

Walking:

  • Lowers your risk of diabetes, heart attack, and stroke.
  • Helps you look and feel younger
  • Increases your chances to stop smoking—even a 5-minute walk can cut down on the cigarette cravings
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Maintains mental acuity—physical activity feeds your brain tissue and stimulates the production of neurons, synapses, and blood vessels
  • Reduces Stress—and may even ward off depression and anxiety
  • Increases energy and improves the quality of your sleep
  • Boosts your immune system to improve your overall health
  • Keeps you committed—walking has the highest compliance rate of any exercise program
